High School Bullies

A Growing Problem

School bullies, and especially high school bullies, are a growing concern for everyone. Educators must be well trained in identifying, addressing, and preventing bullying.

Providing Educators With Needed Training

School bullies have been around for generations. In recent years, dealing with high school bullies and middle school bullies has taken on a greater sense of urgency because of the increase in school violence.

Teachers and principals can no longer afford to minimize incidents of bullying. Educators must be trained in strategies to successfully address bullying and aggressive student behavior.

Addressing Bullying

Bullying negatively impacts student achievement. Without a general feeling of safety in school, students will not perform their best academically. Educators need to be equipped with the proper training to quickly resolve these types of problems.

Teachers and principals need comprehensive training that includes the following:

  • common characteristics of bullies
  • hidden impact of bullying on the victims
  • simple strategies to reduce conflict
  • typical reporting requirements
  • school environment factors that contribute to bullying

Preventing Bullying

Most bullying incidents can be prevented. Simple, specific strategies are designed to:

  • develop more confident students, which reduces the need some students feel to bully
  • create a culture of mutual respect to prevent victimization
  • establish positive school climates
  • establish positive classroom learning environments
  • learn effective strategies to resolve conflicts and reduce bullying
