About Us
John began his career as a bank auditor but quickly followed his heart to an award winning career in public education. He’s a veteran educator, speaker, author, and consultant with successful experience as a superintendent, chief academic officer, principal, teacher, and coach.
John has worked in large and midsized urban, suburban, and rural districts and at several high-poverty schools.
He was twice invited to the White House with his students -- once from a suburban school and once from an urban school.
He has also been honored several times with school board resolutions lauding him for his professional accomplishments.
During his career, John opened four new high schools as the first principal. His schools quickly established reputations for excellence and his students won numerous national and state awards.
John utilized research-based practices that resulted in rapid gains in student achievement.
He was also recognized for organizing district-wide community service projects, including a four-year period in which his students funded and distributed more than 60 tons of food to the poor.
Known as "Doc Fro" to his students, he received extensive media coverage as "the principal with the blue mohawk on a motorcycle." This was his reward to his "students that nobody else wanted" after he led them to full accreditation on the state tests in their first year.
John holds a doctorate in education administration from the University of Virginia. He also holds a master’s in secondary education, a bachelor’s in business administration, and a certificate in feature film writing.
John and his wife are active in their church and support charities that fight hunger and provide clean drinking water wells in Africa. John’s latest "big dreams" are to build orphanages in poor countries throughout the world and to see one of his screenplays reach the big screen. They are dreams he's working hard to achieve.
